Approved Proposal To Start Research Cell On ISIS, Says Rajnath Singh

Guwahati:

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today that the government has approved National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) proposal to open a research cell on terror group ISIS. He added that 100 new posts have been created in the NIA for effective investigation and supervision.

“Terror funding is a big factor in promoting terrorism. With NIA’s role there has been a decline in terror funding,” Mr Singh said in Guwahati while inaugurating two new office-cum-housing complexes of the NIA.

Mr Singh added that the NIA has been successful in achieving coordination with other agencies like the police and the anti-terror squads of different states. “The conviction rate of the NIA is 92 per cent. It is a matter of pride for all us,” he added.

The Home Minister also said that the circulation of fake currency notes in the country has also declined due to the combined efforts of the NIA and other central and state agencies, he said.

NIA’s Guwahati project has been built at a cost of Rs 40 crore and is spread across 9,830 square metres. Besides office buildings and residential quarters, it also has barracks for soldiers and a community centre, according to NBCC India.
